Lake Myśliborskie – Destroyed Diving Potential

Lake Myśliborskie could be a very interesting diving spot. It is a large body of water with easy access via the Municipal Beach, underwater vegetation, fish, and a varied bottom. Unfortunately, during my dives, the problems that have persisted underwater for years stand out far more than the potential of this place.

MUNICIPAL BEACH – THE EASIEST ENTRY POINT

The Municipal Beach is the most easily accessible diving spot on Lake Myśliborskie. The water entry is convenient, and right at the bathing area, the bottom is sandy. A few dozen meters from the shore, a strip of underwater vegetation begins, followed by a distinct drop-off to about 4 meters.

Near the piers, you can descend to around 5 meters. The beach and piers themselves are well developed, and a nearby island is connected to the shore by a pier.

This part of the lake best demonstrates the great potential of this body of water.

THERE IS LIFE UNDERWATER

Among the underwater vegetation, you can spot perch, roach, and pike, among others.

Lake Myśliborskie is a large body of water – its surface area exceeds 617 hectares, and according to OSiR information, it is home to 29 fish species.

The problem is that during diving, it’s hard to focus solely on nature.

Because very quickly, trash becomes visible.

HUNDREDS OF BOTTLES, CANS, AND TIRES

There is a large amount of waste left by people lying underwater.

Bottles, cans, tires, and various other trash sink to the bottom and remain there for years.

I have personally cleaned Lake Myśliborskie three times. During these actions, I removed huge amounts of waste from the bottom – including hundreds of bottles and cans, tires, and many other items.

The area around the piers up to the island has been largely cleaned by me.

But the problem does not disappear.

New trash continues to appear on the bottom.

THE WORST PROBLEM IS VISIBILITY

The second major problem is water clarity.

For most of the year, underwater visibility is very poor. Beyond the sandy section near the bathing area, the bottom quickly turns into soft, silty sediment.

Just a slight fin movement is enough to stir up the silt and almost completely lose visibility.

During diving, this means that even if something is just a few centimeters away, we might simply not see it.

This greatly limits the possibilities for exploring this place.

A PROBLEM VISIBLE UNDERWATER

Even more disturbing are the amounts of waste whose presence may indicate water pollution issues.

During dives, I repeatedly found large quantities of sanitary pads and tampons on the bottom.

These should not be ending up in the lake.

Their presence may indicate sewage entering the water or problems with the sewage system. I have observed this many times during dives, and it is one of those sights that clearly show the problem goes beyond ordinary trash left by people relaxing by the water.

THE LAKE HAS POTENTIAL, BUT WE ARE NOT UTILIZING IT

And that is what is most regrettable about Lake Myśliborskie.

It is a large, easily accessible body of water with a sandy entry, vegetation, fish, and places where interesting dives can be conducted. Official materials on water tourism even point to good diving conditions.

So the problem is not a lack of potential.

The problem is the environmental condition.

Poor visibility, silty bottom, underwater waste, and the pollution signs I observed mean that diving here does not provide the satisfaction it could in a clean and well-maintained lake.

CLEANING HELPS, BUT DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM

Of course, you can get into the water and remove trash.

I have done this three times myself.

You can clean more sections of the bottom, remove tires, bottles, and cans. But if people keep throwing waste into the water and sewage and pollution problems are not resolved, the situation will look similar again after some time.

Cleaning is necessary.

But even more important is to stop polluting the lake.

MYŚLIBORSKIE COULD LOOK COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

Lake Myśliborskie is not a place without value.

Quite the opposite.

It has everything needed to become a much more interesting place for divers and water users. A large body of water, accessible bathing areas, vegetation, fish, and a diverse underwater environment offer great possibilities.

But first, we need to take care of what lies beneath the surface.

Because the biggest problem of Lake Myśliborskie is not a lack of attractions.

The biggest problem is that over the years we have allowed it to be destroyed.
