Lake Woświn – hidden underwater attractions

Lake Woświn is one of the more interesting diving spots in the region, primarily thanks to the unusual objects found on its bottom. Although visibility for most of the year can significantly limit diving, there are several attractions under water that are definitely worth diving here for.

BEACH IN TUCZE

One of the more interesting places to start diving is the beach in Tucze. Entry into the water allows you to quickly find yourself in deeper water, as the bottom drops steeply to approximately 6 metres.

In this part of the lake you can comfortably carry out recreational dives, although you need to be prepared for underwater conditions to be very variable.

VISIBILITY CAN SPOIL YOUR PLANS

The biggest problem when diving in Woświn is visibility. For most of the year it is poor, and its conditions can change significantly.

So this is not a place where you can count on perfect water clarity and distant underwater views. Fortunately, Woświn has something that partially compensates for these conditions – specific attractions located on the bottom.

NYSA 522 UNDERWATER

One of the most unusual attractions is a sunken Nysa 522. A car lying on the bottom of the lake definitely stands out against the backdrop of typical underwater landscapes.

This is one of those objects that during diving you simply have to see. Combined with limited visibility, it creates quite an unusual, almost mysterious atmosphere.

DIVING BELL AND BOAT GRAVEYARD

Underwater you can also find an old diving bell, which is another interesting point to visit.

An even more unusual place is the graveyard of wooden boats. The remains of old vessels resting on the bottom create a distinctive underwater landscape and show that the lake harbours far more than can be seen from the surface.

In Woświn there is also a training platform used by divers. Thanks to this, the reservoir not only has exploratory value, but also a place to conduct underwater training.

LOTS OF RUBBISH ON THE BOTTOM

Unfortunately, underwater attractions are only one side of Woświn. The bottom of the lake is also heavily littered.

While cleaning the lake, I recovered a large quantity of bottles, cans and plastic waste. This is another example of how much ends up in our lakes and how long it remains on the bottom afterwards.

THE WORST FIND

During one of the cleanups, I came across a find that particularly stuck with me.

It was a tightly sealed bagcontaining dog bones and bricks. Everything indicated that someone deliberately weighted the bag with bricks and drowned a living dog in it. It's one of the most shocking finds I've come across while diving.

WOŚWIN HAS POTENTIAL

Lake Woświn is a large body of water and has significantly greater potential than visibility alone would suggest. Official data for the region indicate a surface area of approximately 810 hectares, with a maximum depth exceeding 28 metres. The lake also lies within the boundaries of the Iński Landscape Park.

However, from a diver's perspective, what matters most is what lies directly beneath the surface. Nysa 522, a diving bell, a graveyard of wooden boats and a training platform mean that despite poor visibility, there is plenty to see here.

Woświn is definitely not among the easiest diving sites, but that's precisely what gives it its character. You have to accept the conditions and know what to look for. In return, the lake can reveal things that are hard to expect from ordinary recreational diving.
